Starfox: Assault

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Starfox: Assault

If you own a Gamecube but do not own this game, fix that. The music in this game is worth $60 alone.

It's performed by the New Tokyo Orchestra and it just sounds fantastic. It's like sex for your ears.

The gameplay is very similar to Halo and Halo 2 and it's gone back to the Star Fox roots. None of that bull **** magic staff talking dinosaur following you around stuff. You get your wingmen (woman) and have great fox tailing you, you fly, run and drive around and shoot stuff. It's awesome.

And like it's predacessors the replay value is massive.

The multiplayer is also excellent after you get a few new maps by play story mode.

We're renting it now, and we'll probably end up buying it.

Hell, I think they very shot in the game is worth the 60 bucks, where the first thing you see is OMG IM IN THE MIDDLE OF A 10'000 FREAKEN SHIPS BLOWING THE HELL OUT OF EACH OTHER WOOOOOOO!

Ive already beaten the game, and the one complaint I have is that all the bossess are entirly to easy, as are most of the missions. I remember back in the day when it took me 2 continues just to figure out how to BEAT the damn monster.

But the multiplayer makes up for it. Arwing Vs Tanks Vs Rocket Launchers = Win

I hated the last few Resident Evil games and this one won't be any better in my opinion.

And I've never even heard of Killer 7. I will stick with Star Fox: Assault which I think, alone is better than the entire RE series not including 2.

Just so long as the game is at least 75% Arwing I'll get it.

Otherwise they keep making the same mistake with StarFox, namely, people like StarFox because of the ships, not because they want to run around and shoot someone in FPS mode.

I have Metroid Prime 2 for that.

this is what I love about GC owners, there ablity to ignore there formats prime titles.

If you think the current Resident Evil 4 is anything like the others you are very mistaken. RE used to be a niche game. but RE:4 is. well far from it.

Star FOx Assult is not 75% Arwing, its a mis magnle of FPS badley balanced tank sections, and none of its previous games charms, its not aswell structured as #1 in fact. with no balance or grade to its game.

EDGE score was 6/10 , and I say thats pretty genrous, after playing it on the weekend, I would be more inclined to go 5/10. I was utterly bored within about 10mins.

As for Killer 7, like read some press material or somthing.
Resident Evil 4. Pull your head out of your un-GC-educated ass. theres a reason Nintendo fail, its because of ppl like you.

Starfox has had terrible reviews, mainly due to the lack of Arwing space battles. Since Lylat Wars (Starfox 64) is one of my favourite games, you can understand my annoyance. How do you [composite word including 'f*ck'] up Starfox?! If you'r not Rare!?

Oh, and Resident Evil 4 is the dog's. I don't like the earlier games much, but by God this new one is the best thing since Brevil.

*thinks* Yeah, 75% is about right. It coulda used a little more Arwing tho.

Though all the reviews Ive read have been WAY to harsh. They make it sound like its 75% walking, which its not.

Give your IP to Namco?
EDGE wrote: Less then a third of the game is spent flying into the screen, and these sections, thought strong enough, are pale retreads of the dramatic scripting of Nintendos earlier efforts; they're also shorn of the forks that made Lylat wars such a joy to return to.
Sums it up for me. thought it was very average.
waste of an IP.

There are only 3 Arwing levels in the game, out of 10 levels. They are brilliant.

They have removed the multiple routes, making it stage based

The landmaster levels and on foot sections are weak.

I am very disapointed with this game, it's still fun, but its not what I expect from a Starfox title. I wish Nintendo had developed it themselves.

The graphics are mostly lovely and the music is very good, but its just not a great game

The last few Resident Evil games have not been enjoyable for me. Why would I buy a game, prime title or not, if I do not like it.

Everything I read about it painted it to be like the other RE games, just no zombies. The fact there were Zombies is why I liked the second one more so than the first one. So you take out Zombies, the game is apparently similar.

FPS? I can go into first person? I don't care what anyone says, I still love the Landmaster.

Good for you, I've beaten the game 3 times and spent three hours atleast with the multiplayer. I am working on my 4th go-round on the story part of the game.

Yes, because I don't like Resident Evil, I am killing the gamecube.

You're an idiot, have I told you that?

Because its so unlike any other resident evil title to date, hence why everyone says the opposite to your following.

Well its not according to just about anyone.
I dunno go look at say,
www.ign.com
or any other game web site, or magazine, or hell just about anyone.
FPS? I can go into first person? I don't care what anyone says, I still love the Landmaster.
But they totaly messed it up in this version. I love the land master, everyone does, but this is one of the weekest aspects of the game!

Tough game then...
Doesnt matter how many times you have beaten it, to be honest it doesnt say alot now does it.
Yes, because I don't like Resident Evil, I am killing the gamecube.
No sweetie, if you had used a single brain cell. you would have realised that you damage the GC buy not even bothering to read proper reviews of games, and purchase the titles most worth of Nintendos machine.
thus, lil obys like your self is what makes manufactures like Capcom dump the GC in the favour of a rival machine.
Doesnt take a genius to work that out now does it?
Oh whats that, you have some dumb witted comment to make in return. no. because you have nothing to say other then the following play school line
You're an idiot, have I told you that?
Lets be honest here. your wrong, the gaming world thingks your wrong.
And frankly so does everyone else in this thread think your wrong.

And when it comes to video games. im right, your wrong by default

Star Fox Assult is an average game. it doesnt help big names and big guns to your console when you cant even be bothered to check out a game like RE:4 because you think its like all the others.

Get a brain.

actually dont, you would probably do us all more harm.

Time to wait till this is in the bargain bin before I get it.

Thats a lie.

3 out of 10 are *pure* Arwing levels. 3 more are half Arwing/half Ground, and one more is Arwing Optional, and the last one is 75% tank.

Trust me, you do spend about 75% of the game in the air.

so 3/10 = 33%
3/10 are 50% tank/arwing = 25%
1 Optional = 10%

total = 68%

The tanks levels are so bad tho!

I bought it, played it, and that is a gross exaggeration. You spend a good chunk of this game not in an Arwing, which frankly, is not the point of something called Starfox.

The pilot levels are atrocious, and the tank is nearly useless, as all the targets in the game tend to be in areas that are only accessible when out on foot anyways.

That being said, the Arwing only levels are fantasticly great fun, which just futhers enrages me, because that means the potential for a truly awesome Starfox game was there, and instead they threw it away for the sake of something else completely unrelated to solid entertainment.

Also, the random detour to the Dinosaur planet was just stupid. StarFox Dinosaur Planet was a terrible game, and to allude to it in any way shape or form was just poor.

On the flip side Star Wolf was infinitely cooler than, I dunno, the rest of the game itself. They had better Voice Actors, better lines, cooler music and their ships looked fantastic. Clearly someone on the design team knew what the were doing. Unfortunately it seems like he or she was killed and replaced with monkeys suffering from some sort of palsy, for the rest of the game is clearly the result of a group that simply doesn't care about what makes StarFox fun.

Finally, who's bright idea was it to take StarFox and StarFox 64's tiered stage selection and simply turn it into a 10 level linear pile of mucus? Now instead of choosing a path based on differing strategies and storylines, you're stuck doing the same 7-8 stupid missions, just so you can get to the 1 or 2 gems in the game, namely Star Wolf.

Listen, all they had to do was take StarFox 64, update the engine, put some sort of storyline together and keep certain game mechanics the same. Hell it's worked for Zelda, Mario and Metroid for ages now. Instead they decided to take a collective dump on StarFox and pass it off as a must have GC game.

I'm just glad I split the cost of the game with my friend. If I had had to pay full price for this, I may have had to jump off a bridge.
