Hell no! The second episode was waaay more enjoyable than the first. Even though it avoided addressing the regeneration stuff, the first ep was still mostly set-up - and that eats into story. The second episode had all the things I like: loads of effects (if a bit ropey), funny aliens, a bit of weirdness and a big finale (even if it did drag a bit near the end). Even Billie had some more interesting stuff to do (apart from the obligatory 'screaming damsel in distress') - she made me actually believe her reaction to all the aliens and the death of the Earth. I'd have probably been just as poignant (and without the girly screaming).spiderfrommars wrote:Am I alone in liking the 2nd episode more than the first?
There's only one major bummer with the ep: after such a nice sci-fi laden story, anything else (except Darleks, Cybermen or a 'Two Doctors' show) will be kinda a letdown. Looking at the next episode, set in the past, it strikes me as a bit dull (as with all period-style stories). I just hope it has the 'hide behind the sofa' qualities of other Dr Who scary episodes.
Anyway, here's to future episodes. Or past ones - now which way does this lever need to go..? (pump-action Tardis? Brilliant!).

Here's a interview where the destruction of Gallifrey is revealed, you'll need real player to play it though
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/networks ... ackinTime#
Just go to 01:11:54 and he'll mention it all.
Here's the spoiler for those of you who can't be bothered to install real player:

The Daleks destroyed Gallifrey and the Doctor is the only survivor of that war. However, it is speculated (by fans) that the master will show up in the episode Boomtown

That's basically what the audio play Deadfall says. Only it goes on to further it that it was the Doctor's own TARDIS that was the delivery vessel, due to some underhand mechanical duplicity.Stormwolf wrote:Here's the spoiler for those of you who can't be bothered to install real player:

Oh, and from what I've found, it seems that it was a fan-made production in the 1980s, so it probably isn't canon. Then again, with all the alternate timelines and even how we view Transformers, who's to say what's canon and what's not?

You're starting a Doctor Who canon debate? Do you know how evil those flamewars get?Rebis wrote:Oh, and from what I've found, it seems that it was a fan-made production in the 1980s, so it probably isn't canon. Mind you, I've yet to find anyone who considers something that's so obviously slightly obscure fanfic to be Doctor Who canon. And I know some fans who take an "absolutely everything is canon" approach.

I prefer more general arguments about the nature of canonicity.Bouncelot wrote:You're starting a Doctor Who canon debate? Do you know how evil those flamewars get?
It would be fairly simple to retcon; the Doctor believes his people and planet to have been destroyed, but he's had his mind and memories ****ed with so many times...

Okay: you've all lost me now. I've watched probably about six hours of Dr Who in my entire life, and the only stuff I've ever read with him in was the Death's Head stuff in the Marvel comics.
I'll just be over here in the Transformers part of the forum. (Walks away glumly, cursing considerable lack of required Dr Who knowledge).

There isn't an official answer to what's in and what's out of the Who canon. However, The vast vast majority of fans would not put them in the canon. I think there's a reference to Dimensions in Time in one of the books, where it's referred to as a nightmare he had. And, let's face it, that's where it belongs.Legion wrote:by whom?spiderfrommars wrote:Is Dimensions In Time considered canon? I'm assuming (hoping?) that the answer is no.
i think the official answer is "no" along with "Curse of Fatal Death"
Oh, and (according to its author) the forthcoming novel The Gallifrey Chronicles by Lance Parkin will resolve any hanging plot threads from the novels (presumably including the destruction of Gallifrey) so it will be easy to see how the TV series could follow on from it.

It's the humerous Doctor Who story that they did for Comic relief back in 1999. It featured Rowan Atkinson, Richard E Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant and Joanna Lumley playing the ninth through final Doctors.spiderfrommars wrote:Whats Curse of the Fatal Death?
Here's a synopsis

http://www.gallifreyone.com/ - Great general website. Lots of info and a big community. First with most things and even their "Best story of all time" poll was shown on the "Pymarids of Mars" DVD in an extra. Anyways lots of lengthy reviews on this site for old and classic "Doctor Who". While I'm at it some other useful websites:
http://www.physics.mun.ca/~sps/tv.html - An excellent website for the production information of earch serial.
http://www.highspeedplus.com/~dascott/intro.htm - Agreat webste for looking at Doctor Who events in our crononogical order.
http://www.shillpages.com/dw/dwia.htm - Large image archive for each Doctor and the companions ( I absolutly love this pic of Debbie Watling as Victoria http://www.shillpages.com/dw/watlid09.jpg )
http://www.doctorwho.ukhq.co.uk/index.h ... ner.html&0 - Nice fan site with reviews of each story
Hope those were useful. I've got more links if you ever want them

I'd recommend Outpost Gallifrey as well. Biggest Who community on the web, and lots of good features.Jetfire wrote:http://www.gallifreyone.com/ - Great general website. Personally I prefer the history at http://www.whoniverse.org/history/ but then I'm biased on the subject. Still, if you want to restrict yourself to the original TV series, then the site Jetfire mentions is the one you want.http://www.highspeedplus.com/~dascott/intro.htm - Agreat webste for looking at Doctor Who events in our crononogical order.
If you want Doctor Who links, then you really want to take a look at http://www.doctorwhowebguide.net/ - which is the nearest you're ever gonna get to a comprehensive list of Doctor Who sites. It even flags up the best of the sites (though the selection process isn't entirely fair - my site deserves the webguide's gold award, dammit). Anyway, the webguide has an entire section devoted to sites containing reviews.Hope those were useful. I've got more links if you ever want them

Cheers for the tips guys. I'll have a ganders when I get home (if I look now I won't get any work done).
I've been to Outpost Gallifrey tho. In fact I tried to register a while back but they weren't accepting any new members because they were getting so busy. And lurking in their forums isn't possible without registering. Shame. I like lurking.

You can't register during the weekend, there's too much activity on the boards then.spiderfrommars wrote:Cheers for the tips guys. I'll have a ganders when I get home (if I look now I won't get any work done).
