Goin' to the hospital

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Goin' to the hospital

Post by Tired Tracks » Fri Mar 25, 2005 1:25 pm

The last two days, I've felt really off. For a month now I've had a head cold on an off and on basis. But these last two days or so everythings gone down hill, so I will visit the hospital tonight or early tomorrow morning.
It could just be a case of a baddly placed gas bubble, or (as I fear) it might be my appendix(sp?).
Scary :(

Well i just came out, it was alright. I'm in bad pain atm though.

General anaesthetic is almost fun :D haha and thats coming from someone with a phobia of needles, razors and blood (so hospital isn't the best place for me!)

don't worry yourself, you'll be fine ^_^

Same here, and I've never really been to a hospital before when it was for me. The most time I spent there for myself was getting a few X-rays of my hand when I broke a finger, and that was in and out.

Can't you go to your doctor/GP/? first. instead of going to the hospital right away?

The last time I went to see my doctor, it was because of a flu that would not be over. I got anti-vomiting pills, could eat again, regained my strength, and gone was the flu! :)

Hope it's that easy for you too. Take care.

ok my GF had her apendix out, scared the **** out of me untill i knew what was wrong.

Ok mate, if the pain is underneath your belly button, but moving to the right side of your body, its your apendix, the pain will always move across to the right and down a bit.

symptons are stomach ache, diarrhea and being sick, this generally get worse towards the time of it rupturing.

Ok dont worry to much they use keyhole surgery now, 3 1cm cuts in your belly.

right im totaly paranoid about needles, I cannot begin to stress how bad it is for myself. when I was in hospital last i resited the general ansthetic for 1.30sec because I was so hyped up with adrenlin. even the doctors were amazed. one even pointed out, "thats some phobia u have" because most ppl are out in 10secs of it being adminstered.

other then that, I know it can be scary, but know that they do it all day every day, my doctors listened to my every word and fear, and made it alot easier for me, because I practically in tears it scared me so much.

as for the apendix, get it looked at soon. my ex GF had it, and I felt for her so much.
look after yourself mate, everything will be cool :)

The pain is down and to the right of my belly button, but its not pain, its more like a bubbling sensation, like I have gas there, I felt better after I was errr 'releasing gasses' last night, but still, it kinda feels like that side is swelling a little bit... so I guess I'll go tonight then. Thanks for the very helpful info Impy

My 'doctor' if you'd call him that, doesn't work on the weekends, and I can't drive to him before he closes because 1. I couldn't make an appointment anyway, 2. I'm trying to finish up todays classes, while making a plan. I've already found my ride to the hospital, and have sent info to my mom about whats happening.

Yeah i managed 1.30, they were pretty amazed, but I had so much adrenlin through fear in me it kept me awake, then as i calmed down, (was thinking about my ex GF actually) I just suddenly went out.

TT, im no expert or doctor, but quite a few ppl I know have had thier apendix out, and ive had the symptoms explained to me. if the pain gets worse and makes you start being sick id deff say thats what it is.

Best get it looked at I think or it could get worse

Yeah, the doctor will make you feel better regardless, because he'll take the uncertainty out of the equation: he should know what's going on and what to do.

Now that I've updated my rl friends, I might as well bring this to a conclusion!
I got my ride to the doctor, got poked and prodded for 30 minutes or so, and the doctor tells me I have a hernia on my right side. So, in a week or so I'm gonna have surgery to put in a filter that will prevent it, at least on the right side. Until then, I just have to deal with painkillers (I HATE PILLS!) and a massage technique the doc showed me to ease the pain.

It was really scary sitting alone in a room like that for 20 minutes or more, as the pain slowly grows. Either way I did the right thing. :)
Thanks everyone! *hugs*

Hernias aren't terrible. And hell, once you get the operation, you can't get another [well, on that side]. The metal screen the insert prevents it-- basically what happens is the muscle pushes thru into the scrotum, and the metal screen sures up the scrotal wall. Or something similiar. If I remember correctly, when my old man had a double hernia [both sides] he was walking around the next day and at work two days after the surgery.

My doctor told me that everyones recovery time is different, and that his operation layed him out for a good 6 days. So I'm planning on missing about a week of school unless the surgeon says it'll be less.
My Doc also explained to me exactly what a hernia is, and how it happens, which I found very very strange because on the ride to the hospital, when I was almost there, we were discussing the whole thing about how fetuses are female until male genetics take over. I was partially shocked to hear the same words from a doctor not an hour later. :D
