So I'm seeing the Sin City trailer...

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I think it looks interesting, personally. I don't know like anything about the graphic novel, mind, so if anyone's a fan or familiar some more with the movie, I'd like to hear your thoughts. Basically, should I bother seeing it?

This looks outstanding to me. I love the fact that they're imitating some of the shadowplay Frank Miller uses, as well as some of the fun with colors. The Yellow Bastard looks exactly like the comic, and the flash on Kevin's glasses is straight from the books.

I'm very excited about this one, too bad I'll be in Korea...

The film, co-directed by the creator of the comics, Frank Miller (Dark Knight Returns, Daredevil), is reproducing almost perfectly on screen what is seen in the comics - you can actually do a panel-by-panel comparison with what you see in the footage available so far.

Sin City is the nickname for Basin City, a corrupt city full of criminals, thugs, hookers and the occassional, short-lived nice guy. It's film noir taken to the extreme, genetically enhanced with a splash of Wild West chromosome, and maybe a sprinkling of Lee Marvin.

It's basically tough guys doing tough, painful things. Each mini-series is its own story, but all are set in the same city and most intertwine in some way, whether it's characters in the background playing out a scene from a different plotline, or something as simple as someone "growing up...filling out..."

If none of that made any sense to you at all (and I wouldn't blame you, I am in Strange Mood today), then all I can say is the way the film is currently shaping up I imagine most people will like it. Assuming, of course, that most people like good films. This may be a stretch.

Yeah, I saw my first trailer for it today and vaguely recognized the title. Looks like a kickass time, really liking the mixed use of black&white/colour. I'm going to be checking it out when it's in the theatres, IthinkIthink.

So anyone going to see it this weekend?

They're having a bad ass premire at the Alamo Drafthouse (one of those restaurant in a movie theater places) tonight here, since the whole film was filmed here. But the tickets were sold out by Wednesday.

Judging by how pumped so many different people are about it, plus its arresting visual style, I'm thinking that it could make a whole lot bigger box office splash this weekend than people are expecting.

I have decided I'm gonna see it, but I'm gonna wait until after Sahara next week, which is the one that I've really been looking forward to.

Well, I went to see it and it was pretty freakin' awesome. Just as film noir and gritty and blood soaked as expected.

I saw it, too. It was hilarious, horrible, ridiculous, inventive, original, stunning, gruesome, and a lot of fun. I don't think I've ever seen a movie so ludicrously over-the-top, so fantastically realized, or a concept so superbly executed. While you should be warned that it has some very gruesome moments, it is a really stunning movie.

Funny thing is I also saw 'Guess Who' and 'Miss Congeniality 2' this weekend, and they were both very trite, run-of-the-mill movies. 'Guess Who' really was formulaic but actually a bit funny, but 'Miss Congeniality 2' was one of the most predictable, cookie-cutter wastes of celluloid I've ever seen. They both look like tripe compared to a film as completely unique as 'Sin City.'
