Dr Who episodes!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I wonder why Mickey didn't just use Rose's phone again, tho.

a) I'd have to be within 6 minutes of the upgrade chamber

b) Getting 'killed' looked (sounded) immensely preferable to being cut the [composite word including 'f*ck'] up and having my brain removed whilst I'm still alive.

I'm not a massive who expert or fan but I think it's a very good show.

Looking at a lot of the hardcore Who fans, there seem to be a farily sizable (or at least vocal) portion of bitter twisted **** that want to rip the piss out of the series, esp a lot of the 'artistic licence' parts, when with a lot of em you can quite easily resolve a plausible resolution if you just have a bit of a think and SUSPEND YOUR BELIEF!

The amount of people that refuse to do this when watching sci fi, which lets face it ISN'T ******* REAL is beyond belief.
Has it ever occurred to you that maybe some of those fans enjoy the show as a piece of entertainment, but then get additional enjoyment by ripping it to pieces, and then another dose of enjoyment putting it back together?
I just get the impression that many who fans dont even try to enjoy the show, they just eatch to scrutinise it. Obviously if something is done badly then cuss it down, a la TF's done by Dream Wave, who just had no clue about the mythos. But here, the people working on the show know the material and in general do not mess with established ideas, i.e. didn't bend to allow the Daleks to team up with the Cybermen, Daleks then kicked **** out of the Cybermen etc.

Yeah, thought it was great, dont really see why a fairly large chunk of the fan base have problems with the Tylers and Mikey.
As someone who does a lot of scrutinising, I do actually watch the show in order to enjoy it (well, on first viewing at least). On the Tylers, I always thought they were overrated and Rose in particular has started to grate on me this season. I no longer like the character. Mickey, on the other hand, I've loved since his second appearance made him more than just Rose's wimp of a boyfriend.

So Series 1 or Series 2?

hmm. i'v emissed a couple of series 2 (includingthe second part of the Cyber-man 2 parter).

both ended on real highs but i think series 1 probably had a slightly stronger quality overall.

Series 2 they mucked aroudn a bit more, sometime sit worked - the Sarah Jane episode wa ace, sometime is farted and died a bit (The Peter Keu one).

best British thing on TV by a mile both times round though.

I watched most of the series on t'internet. You can get the eps as torrents pretty much the day after they aired.

Kept forgetting it was on, see.

I could upload The Age of Steel if you want me to.

That cyber-broad had a tear duct of sorts, I live in hope...

When the Doctor opened one up it looked as if they were full of gentleman's relish... there's bound to be a way of releasing it.

I think Series 1's highs were higher, but I think Series 2 was more consistently great, if that makes sense.

However, I do think Love and Monsters is the weakest episode since Doctor Who came back. I didn't necessarily dislike it tho.

Tennant > Eccleston though I think both were tops.

Oohhh...
well, although i do like Tennant, and i had my quibbles about Eccleston when he was on board... I think Chris had a bit more gravitas about him when needed. Example: S1:Dalek... he actually comes across as genuinely scared of the Dalek... David (in Doomsday) look a bit perturbed to see 4 of them and then just walks in to have a friendly chat... ok, ok, so it was written that way, but still.... I couldn't imagine what some of Series 2 would've been like if Chris was still the Doc, it would've had more of an edge. David was just too, flippant maybe? Although there were some great Eps this series, don't ge t me wrong....

yeah, at times Tennants Doctor seems to take things all a bit too much in his stride at times.

His best dark moment, for me, "I used to have so much mercy" - liked that bit, a lot, more shodowy overtones like that would be welcome.

Without a doubt. Whilst I think Tennant is a better all rounder Eccles had some real presence in some scenes. That "oncoming storm" speech was excellent. If I'm honest I get pretty ****** off when people slag him off.

But I absolutely love Tennant when he understates things. His scenes with Sarah Jane and Madame de Pompedour, and descending into the pit, etc.

In fact compare both actors final scenes with Rose and Tennant's is a lot more subtle and natural IMO.

Love both. And the point is they're meant to be different. :)

"i'm just saying"

word.

i don't think anyone is disputing that they are supposed to be different - its more a question of who is the better performer for me. Tennant is very likeble but doesn't seem to quite have Eccy's range.

Oh dear, I've watched Dimensions In Time on You Tube.

Now I remember being disapointed when watching on Children In Need in 93 but dear dear dear me.

Everyone made twats of themselves. Except for Lalla Ward whose scene with the Mitchell Brothers ranks as one of the most surreal things I've ever seen.

Please let this stay forgotten.

In the late 1990s, BBV released a trilogy of made-for-video films, titled Auton, Auton 2: Sentinel and Auton 3. These stories featured UNIT battling the Consciousness. In the first film, a Nestene energy unit and several Autons captured by UNIT in Spearhead from Space are accidentally reactivated. In the sequels, the escaped Autons attempt to awaken several dormant Nestenes put in place since before the development of human civilization. Though BBV was licensed to use the Nestenes, Autons and UNIT by the writers who created them, as with all spin-off productions the canonicity of these films is unclear.

The first one isn't bad actually, the acting isn't fantastic, but it's quite enjoyable. Unfortunately they get progressively worse as the trilogy conitnues. The second one had some potentially good ideas, but the execution let it down a little bit. The third one is a bit pants IMHO.
