Dr Who episodes!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Possible Spoilers but probably not if you've seen the episode wrote: There was a BBC press release saying that she was leaving the series.

And the pre-credits sequence where she narrates her own death is a bit of a pointer that she doesn't die. Otherwise how could she narrate it?
Not sure where 'except that' comes from when you're making the same prediction I did re her life expectancy, albeit with the benefit of having seen the episode.

The only way I can see her leaving in a permanent sense is if they have somehow managed to renege on their contract with some big payoff, but if that were so it would probably have been reported. More likely she's leaving as a regular imo.
It's the conflict between the contract and the press release that's the except bit.

I almost cheered when Mickey appeared. His character's come a long way since he was first swallowed by a wheelie-bin, and the scene where Rose said she missed him was beautifully played.

The worst bit? Trisha doing I Married A Ghost. When Shaun of the Dead did it, it was new and exciting and a bit ironic. Two years later, and we've seen it all before. Not that I want to slag off RTD but he needs to rein in those pop culture references.

I don't know if I'm all that optimistic about the next one though. From the trailer, it looks a bit AvP/Destroy All Monsters.

yes, ever since BoomTown, there's been a marked, yet gradual, change in his character, culminating in his decision in Age of Steel. I liked his attitude to Rose in this one, before he wouldve been all huggy and 'i've missed you', but now he's treating her like she's been treating him for ages, fond but not gushing. nice one Mickey! :)

i quite liked the Derek cameo tho... "No one needs me anymore!" quite poetic after the accusations of fakery apparently being upheld against him of late....

Yes, that's my concern too. There's no way imho that the C can defeat the D, unless it's through sheer weight of numbers (which they do have in their favour in this instance). The C of old might have been able to come up with some plan to outsmart the D, but these C (unless radically different from what we've seen of them so far) really don't stand a chance. I sense much C-death coming up... :o

Watched it again, and the line where he says "It's not the first time the Doctor's been wrong" is an absolute classic :D :D :D

Anything?

He'll draw anything?

There are a lot of things I'd like Hitch to draw of me.

Mainly involving me and Sativa Rose.
If you win, can I have a scan please?

What's this I heard about Tennant's contract being up in the air or something? Nonsense or spin or summat?

I'd be surprised if Tennant doesn't at least do 2 seasons (hopefully it'll be 3!)

Now, Daleks Vs Cybermen. Kept under wraps fairly well. I'm surprised they've done it actually, very fanboyish. Then again, its what 8 year olds wanna see happen too, so fair do's.

sometimes fanboyish can be good can't it? Publishing Transformers comics 20 years after the initial craze is pretty fanboyish...

although one episode to tidy it all off seems far too little to me - i think a 3 parter (at least) would have been more appropriate.

Unless they are going to end it on a cliff hanger and warp it all up at Xmas or summit.

Anyone care to speculate on what a Genesis Ark is?*

*aside from being a plot device to bring back the Daleks in full force, of course.

Just plug in, set to Dalek Factor 5 and in just 10 minutes you have a fully exterminating Dalek! Or your money back! :)

Back To The Future, probably. Hence the Michael J Fox reference. ;)

Anyone been watching the daily teasers? Interesting stuff. Hopefully, they'll be like last year's ones and not give away much of the episode as regards plot twists.

And what exactly would lupine character morality be for there to be an immoral lupine character?

I read it as "we'd need a definition of what lupine character morality would be to define a lupine character's morality"...

This is the bit that got me, though:

There's nothing you can do to prevent the catharsis of spurious morality.

Was actually on their website last night, although then it was curiously dated 29 June not 4 July or even 5 July as it is now. :eyebrow:

Exactly. We'd need a baseline from which to draw a comparison.

So was I, but Karly apparently wasn't, hence the other big 80's film starring Fox...

Its a niggle yes, though guest stars have come back as companions before (Peter Purves, Lalla Ward).

I'm more concerned with the fact that I didn't find her particularly dishy, but maybe that will come in time. ;)
