Nah that's a bit naff really, a obvious joke that would have worked better as an Easter Egg as originaly intended.
The comedy skit on City of Death has a similar problem... And if you're going to put comedy on a DVD written by Douglas Adams you'd better make dang sure it's top notch.

oh yes, glad to see another of Pertwee's first season getting an airing (not saying that just because of Liz , there's some classic SciFi going on that season that his later season's would lack IMHO...
Wish it was Silurians before Inferno, but still a cracking story!
Genesis... i wondered how long they could put off releasing this one... they've nearly managed to keep it last of the Davros ones... but i guess there would have been riots on the street if they'd released Destiny first! ;-)

Hmmm, Delta and the Bannermen.
What strikes me about this one is that it just looks very cheap. But its pretty ambitious what with all the action set pieces, and being mainly OB makes it quite lively. Liked Sylvester's performance here much more than his first 2 stories. The baddy was cool. One of the worst soundtracks tho, surely. Ken Dodd wasn't a problem. Probably my favourite season 24 story.

The Edge of Destruction
Good acting all round here. Nice to see scissors haven't been superseded by sonic devices amongst Gallifreyans. Cop out ending tho.
Watching 'The Beginning' extras, I feel I must point out Verity Lambert was a dish in her day (yes I know I have a one track mind...)
The Sun Makers
Lots of clever Holmes dialogue in this one. My favourite scene was where they threatened to burn the Doctor's face and he helped them with the count down. K9 was very noisy in his early stories wasn't he? Leela still seems very keen to kill people - has she learnt nothing from the Doctor? The Gatherer and The Collector were a bit OTT. Good use of building locations, but interior sets a bit drab. Not sure why this is Jameson's fave story tho. Williams seemed to take awhile to get in his stride... none of the season 15 stories really stand out for me.
Only one T Baker story left for me to see: The Invasion of Time. Then I must really seek out some more Pertwee.
New series tommorow - woo!

Last time I started a new thread when other threads for similar subject matter existed 4 pages back I got unpleasant snark, so thread necromancy is clearly the polite thing at transfans, I thought.spiderfrommars wrote:A piss up with the writers? Sounds fun!
And to think I was happy to let this thread die...
I guess it just depends on one's face. Oh well.
Anyway, this is a nice thread. And as but a casual Doctor Who viewer, I like reading what you and the other knowledgable chaps have to say on the subject! You are a good reviewer Mr frommars.
There are going to be regular auctions for this charity from the same group of people - there is another one running at the moment to win the opportunity to have Bryan Hitch drawing anything you want, as long as it'll fit onto a standard comics board. Perhaps more Doctor stuff will show up.

I'm certainly not keen on her this season. Not in any major way, but like so many things with the most recent series its the little niggly issues that get me. I think it'd be nice to have a companion whom the show doesn't revolve around quite so much and also to get away from her goddamn estate, family and mother who seem contractually obliged to turn up every other episode. It's a TIME AND SPACE SHIP, and yet seems to spend half it's time on present day earth. Gah!!spiderfrommars wrote:Am I in a minority when it comes to hoping Rose doesn't die in the season finale?
So in short I'd have no problems with a new assistant. I've found Rose's character to be rather annoying this series for various reasons and it'd be nice to have a break from her. Plus I have hopes it'll stop the Doctor doing his funny little bipolar shtick where he flicks from being a giggly college student with ADHD to snarling demon whenever somebody so much as looks at Rose the wrong way.

Rose probably doesn't die. Since Piper is signed up to do the Third Dr. Who series, and in any case it wouldn't fit in with the ethos of the RT Davis series, we can assume she probably gets through it in one bit but has to be 'left behind' somehow. She won't however be in the Christmas Special (apparently) so next series will probably have some sort of quest arc to find her and bring her back.
Exactly what happens will probably be unexpected but not especially complicated, as that's usually how Davis' arcs seem to work out.
The general word is that some 'regular and not so regular' cast members may snuff it, however, so here's hoping for Jackie's immediate death. Mickey's in it too, as is Pete Tyler (not doing bad for screentime for a bloke who's meant to have been dead for 20 years).
There's also a lot of noise about the Daleks turning up for some mischief, although they might just be exhibits in Torchwood.
So yar, general theory is Rose doesn't die (or if she does then she's coming back in the not too distant future), Cybermen turn up and trash some stuff, Mickey and Pete Tyler arrive from Parallel Earth and at some point the Daleks poke their snouts into the fun. Fingers crossed it won't be a rushed mess.
The thing that narks me about that is that they always return to a point after the last time they were there.Karl Lynch wrote:It's a TIME AND SPACE SHIP, and yet seems to spend half it's time on present day earth. Gah!!
Just once I'd appreciate an exchange that went along the lines of:
Jackie: "Back already?"
Rose: "Whaddaya mean?"
Jackie: "Well, you were here yesterday"
Rose: "No, I wasn't..."
Jackie: "Don't you remember, you killed that thing."
Rose: "What thing?"
Except slightly less lame and improvy. With an actual plot. Or if, you know, somebody actually died on the earlier visit that they haven't experienced yet. Pathos and stuff.
Yawn.

Sounds a wee bit too complicated. Don't get me wrong, I think it'd be a nice change to have a non-linear story, but the Beeb are really marketting Who this time around as part (effectively) of their CBBC lineup and I'd imagine the producers would consider that a little bit too off the wall for such an audience. Kinda shame, some of my favourite cartoons from my childhood stand up for me now exactly because they weren't written down to children, they were just general quality which shows through to both children and adults. Not to say the new Who doesn't have its moments by any stretch, but you know what I mean.Brendocon wrote:The thing that narks me about that is that they always return to a point after the last time they were there.Karl Lynch wrote:It's a TIME AND SPACE SHIP, and yet seems to spend half it's time on present day earth. He'll draw anything?
There are a lot of things I'd like Hitch to draw of me.
Mainly involving me and Sativa Rose.

Weeeee fun :3 I must say I groan from sorrow and an impending pain in my brain whenever I see a standard ep was written by RT Davis, but he does pretty good with the big bad huge stories and overall arcs I think.
Not convinced they're going to wrap that up in the remaining episode (in fact it'd be nice if they didn't...) maybe leave something over for the Christmas Special?

Sadly I can see the Cyber 'victory' being reversed all too easily. Some dohicky involving the Doctor saying some technobabble mumbojumbo really fast to disguise the fact it doesn't make sense, messing with that dimension doo-dad and then the Cybermen all going 'pop' back into their own dimension.
All the while we use the Daleks for mileage throughout the episode to disguise the fact we're heading towards such a straightforward ending.
T'would have been cool to see Davros in that sphere I think... only if he were written well though...
Or failing that, I can see the Doctor sacrificing another incarnation, looking into the Heart of the Tardis and using its temporary powers to wipe away the invading army. Man I wish they hadn't introduced that plot device :( Nice to see the psychic paper debunked for a change though, like the sonic screwdriver it's used a little bit too much as a writing convenience.
So yar, imo the Daleks will run around exterminating things and eating up some air time and then the Cybermen will all be sent packing back to their own dimension, probably with Rose lost somewhere in The Void (home of Unicron) and the Christmas Special being The Doctor and his new assistant hunting for her.
It'd be nice if the Cybermen won. The Daleks did in 2165 (or some date like that)! Then we could have a Christmas Special where the Doctor is off having a stand-in adventure on an alien world as an exile from Earth in his TARDIS all the while plotting a way to liberate the world.
Ooh questions questions :3 Must wait until next week for the answers :)

Nice to see Mickey again.
A pity the Tardisode wasn't a showing of events from the parallel world - Mickey and Pete fighting the good fight, arrival of the void ship, departure of the Cybermen.
Earth's present being connected to the Tardis through Rose, possibly due to the strong bond with the Doctor and acting in a similar way that prevented Time Lords from interfering in Gallifrey's past?
As a sidenote, the tv series may be coming to an end next week, but BBC7 will soon be broadcasting the audio series again.

The only way I can see her leaving in a permanent sense is if they have somehow managed to renege on their contract with some big payoff, but if that were so it would probably have been reported. More likely she's leaving as a regular imo.

i kinda hope thats the case.
although given how they have played (over-egged) the relationship, it would be interesting to see how the Doctor would respond to her death.
Although in Tennats case it would probably be by shouting.
i like Rose.
And Mickey.
And Jackie.
although more alien worlds would be nice.
