Dr Who episodes!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I hadn't noticed this yet. Obviously I'm not following new series news too closely.
Stumbled across this today whilst trying to avoid spoilers, i think current thought is that this isn't an official site... but if it isn't, then the beeb have lost a good URL there...

(great site btw)

Whats the cheapest anyone's seen the season 1 boxset for online?

PS. Bounce, Galaxy 4 is apparently long gone, according to a doc I saw yesterday. :(

Ooops. I must've made a mistake whilst compiling my list.

I got my new series 1 boxset for 42.98 off Play. The extras are all right but nothing special compared to the sort of thing you find on the classic series releases (though I might be getting that feeling because I've been overloaded with behind the scenes new series stuff via confidential and DWM). The fifth disc features the cut-down versions of the Confidential series and a confidential episode relating to the Christnas Special which I'm not watching for fear of spoilers. The commentaries are quite good as commentaries go, though the one for Rose contains minor spoilers for The Christmas Invasion.

Oh, and it's defiinitely cheaper than getting the vanilla releases seperately.

Not as brill as they could have been- No deleted scenes (and aparently on the commentries they keep refering to cut bits with "That'll be on the extra's" as well), no Blue Peter interview... Just the edited Confidentials and trailers basicaly.

The original versions are available as streamed realplayer on the BBC site (though if you want copies with good resolution you'll have to find them on one of the filesharing networks).

The conspiracy to stop me buying this boxset gets ever more convoluted... They dismantled the entire DVD section at work yesterday just to spite me...

Ah, so Underworld... Nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Okay, so it got dreadfully dull in the middle, but I enjoyed the modelwork and shootouts.

Worst Tom I've seen must still be The Invisible Enemy by a long shot.

A freind of mine at work brought Creature From the Pit on video for £2.99 from The Works for her two teenagers who'd liked the new show, and they loved it...

So... Planet of the Spiders.

Is it wrong that I really enjoyed that pointless and endless chase in Episode 2?

Though I thought the whole story did have 1 rather good scene: when The Great One forced the doc to march in a circle. Cool stuff.

I adore SJS but I did cringe when she said to that chap (previously mentally retarded) "you're normal now!"

Aren't UNIT in serious need of haircuts??

I thought the scenes leading up to the regen were nowhere near as powerful as the closing ones of Logopolis or Caves (or even Parting of the Ways) tho the Pert's last words were sweet.

Overall tho, this story was nothing special IMHO.

Is that the one that ends with the chassee simply vanishing into thin air, making you wonder why he didn't do that twenty minuets earlier?
:)

The new DWM revelas why there wasn't any deleted scenes on the Ecclescake DVD box set, the BBC lost them. It seems everyone thought it was someone elses job tom keep them safe. According to RTD they have managed to retrive them from other sources, but not in time for the DVD deadline, but we may see them eventually at somepoint next year [Hopefully he means either on the Tennant set or a DWM covermounted disc rather than a super special edition boxset of season one...)

spiderfrommars wrote:Is it wrong that I really enjoyed that pointless and endless chase in Episode 2?
Is that the one with the flying hovercraft and the very bad CSO effects?
spiderfrommars wrote:Though I thought the whole story did have 1 rather good scene: when The Great One forced the doc to march in a circle. Cool stuff.
Yes the whole Great One vs Doc stuff was what made the story for me i think, a lot of the rest of is useless tat, but there are a few moments, like the one you mention that really make it shine imho.
"Is that fear I feel in your mind? You're not accustomed to feeling fear, are you Doctor?"
Good stuff.
spiderfrommars wrote:I adore SJS but I did cringe when she said to that chap (previously mentally retarded) "you're normal now!"
oh god yes.
at least his response of "I seriously hope not" isn't too cliched... oh wait...
spiderfrommars wrote:Aren't UNIT in serious need of haircuts??
New UN regulations must have been passed. ;)
spiderfrommars wrote:I thought the scenes leading up to the regen were nowhere near as powerful as the closing ones of Logopolis or Caves (or even Parting of the Ways) tho the Pert's last words were sweet.
Really? I thought the build up to the actual regen in Logopolis are a bit weak imho, apart from the doc letting go of the cable and plummeting to his doom, the dialogue is a bit weak "this is the end, but the moment has been prepared for"...
Granted, Spiders' dialogue's not great either, but, i dunno, JohnDoc actually looks like he's dying. TomDoc looks like he's laying down ready for a nap.
Nothing's gonna beat Andozani's regen tho. and i don't just mean because of Nicola's cleavage hogging 50% of the screen...

I assume RTD or someone on staff had copies at home...

I've wayched the end to Bad Wolf about 12 times... It just beats the return of Toni in 24 ("Who are you calling/" "The one man i can trust!") as the ultimate hero moment of 2005.

You know, I always thought that he didn't seem to be making much of an effort to hang on - he just sort of, well, let go.

Well, actually, the Cybermen stole them and did a deal to return them in exchange for RTD's soul. You heard it here first.
