Eh, that pretty much describes a lot of the changes Lucas made to the originals for the "Special Editions". Greedo shoots first? Anakin young again? Christ. It's like DW trying to mess with UK continuity.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote: *cough* BS *cough*
Anyway, continuing the pointless Death Star debate, I still maintain that there was some external influence that prevented the Emperor from beginning construction. Perhaps the battle for control of the Republic leaves the newly-formed Empire in a state that it simply CAN'T undergo such a massive construction project? I would imagine that trying to fund the extermination of such a well-established order as the Jedi would take enough time, money and energy that might leave even Palpatine in need of a restbit. As Besty said, who would tell him no if he wanted to build it? I hardly imagine that he created the plans for the Death Star just on some whim and stored it away "for a rainy day" or something.
Also, a thought on Luke keeping the family name: I've always had this crazy idea that Ben was grooming him for the confrontation with the Emperor and Vader, and maybe hoped that Luke wouldn't really find out the truth for awhile, but feeding the kid a story about Anakin being "killed" would help put some extra drive into the kid.
I think he meant that he was killed in a non-literal sense. Also I think he knew the confrontation and Luke finding out the truth were inevitable. Which is why he winks at luke just before he dies.bobaprime85 wrote:Also, a thought on Luke keeping the family name: I've always had this crazy idea that Ben was grooming him for the confrontation with the Emperor and Vader, and maybe hoped that Luke wouldn't really find out the truth for awhile, but feeding the kid a story about Anakin being "killed" would help put some extra drive into the kid.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote: *cough* BS *cough*

The good thing about star wars is that it is loose enough for one's own individual takes on certain aspects of it.bobaprime85 wrote: Anyway, continuing the pointless Death Star debate, I still maintain that there was some external influence that prevented the Emperor from beginning construction. The fact that we see schematic plans for the death star in Ep2 is, personally, a bit wank, it would have been far better, imho, for the DS to have been something dreamt up by imperial engineers between Ep3 and Ep4... the fact that Palpy would actually expend as much resources as he did on the DS and DS2 seeing as they were of alien origin, goes against the xenophobic, genocidal Emperor, we've all grown to love over the years.
for all we know the DS might just have been the prototype for the DS2... meaning that whilst the DS was being built/blowing the crap out of alderaan, the DS2 was already starting to be built. the gap between ep3 and ep4 could well be put down to Palpy needing to spend his resources on shaping the 'old' republic to his new imperial viewpoint. after all, for all we know, the jedi order is pretty much gone the way of the dodo by the end of Ep3, so apart from builing his fleet of Star Destroyers, what else is Palpy got his engineers working on?... oh, two Death Stars...
ok, i admit, i'm drunk...

Just watched it again - oh I cant help but be excited, that line where he says "NO!-you were chosen one!" - maybe its Ewans great acting but you can see the pain in his face, that really hits a cord in my body that.
When RotJ finnished as a child, it was like my childhood ended...I have felt somthing with EP3 I havent felt in a long time...

Who says they were of alien origin? I can easily see Palpatine dreaming up a super weapon like the DS and then using it as a way of luring in prospective separatists. Besides, I would imagine that Palpy wouldn't mind using aliens to do the grunt work for him, if only to make it easier to wipe them out later.Legion wrote: The fact that we see schematic plans for the death star in Ep2 is, personally, a bit wank, it would have been far better, imho, for the DS to have been something dreamt up by imperial engineers between Ep3 and Ep4... the fact that Palpy would actually expend as much resources as he did on the DS and DS2 seeing as they were of alien origin, goes against the xenophobic, genocidal Emperor, we've all grown to love over the years.
Of course, as you said, SW is loose enough for people to put their own interpretations into things. Although I've yet to meet the person that can successfully explain away the Gungans. Maybe Episode 3 will deliver them as an example of Palpatine's newly-announced genocidal ways.....
