Got a new gadget!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Got a new gadget!

It's not very hightech.

It's a podometer (I think it's called). A small thingy that counts how many steps you take in a day. And that is a thing I always wanted to know. :) And as a child you can go around counting all day, but now that's a bit awkward, 'specially at work.

Quite silly, but my dad's a math teacher.

So far (09:00 morning) I am at 1656 steps, but it included cycling to work as steps too. Weird.

Let's see how many we can do today! :)

So do we know how many steps a person should make in a day?

If you're one of the smart kids, could you please try to explain how it works before Rebis finds this topic? :)

Haha, that's a fun thing to say. :)

I'll mail you real soon about playing Munchkin, Eline! I'm a bit swamped with work and social stuff, but I'll do my best to free up some time.

It measures hip movement, if it's anything like the ones that my family have all* got.

* - not me, though. Ha.

And it's a pedometer. :)
Grrr. Argh.

I think it has, it makes a very soft clicking sound with each step I take.

The one I have says "make 9000 steps a day". But it's part of a be-healthy-and-get-in-shape program so I'm not sure if that number is an average number or not.

9000 seems attainable though, I have 5630 now and it's only 13:30 and I have some more walking around at work to do.

Nonono... first please the woman, and then you can sleep!

Okay, it's now 20:45 and I've made 14,197 steps today. Included cycling. Quite a lot...

I had one of those, a little cheapie one someone didn't want. I swooped on it.

At the very first it was kinda neat until I realized that it didn't really measure my steps. Then I started playing with it. :p I'd shake it and it would register that as "steps". I was trying to see how high it would go, but I got bored.

Once in awhile I pull it out for fun, but I know it doesn't really measure my steps so I think it's a little pointless. Fun though... maybe the better ones are a bit more worthwhile though?

Well, mine is quite a cheap one too, you could order it from the cornflakes manufacturer... But you can put in your step length and your weight, and so it measures the distance you walk and the calories you burn.

Probably fun for a week or so, and then we'll see.

And mine 'works' when you shake it too. :)
