It's just that the book is getting on 10 years old by now. (It was first published in 95 or 96.... someone please correct me if I'm wrong here) The cool thing is that it's still in print, and I rarely go in a bookstore (Waldenbooks, Borders, etc) that don't have at least one copy on the shelves. Even my local library has a copy.
As for the "hackneyed plot" I think there is some truth in this. 'Kingdom Come' is, at its core, a very traditional comic storyline. It's strength is that it draws on superhero cliches and gives them the most polished presentation ever. While I think 'Watchmen' is a brilliantly written book, it deconstructs the superhero genre whereas 'Kingdom Come' revels in it and glorifies it. This is one of the reasons I prefer 'KC.'
(And yes, 'The Kingdom' is a waste of everybody's time and money)

That's a brilliant send-up of the old "public service announcement" strips.
Oh, it's definitely worth a read or two and stands amongst the best comics the main DC line has produced. Simultaneously a recommendation and an indictment...jboyler wrote: As for the "hackneyed plot" I think there is some truth in this. 'Kingdom Come' is, at its core, a very traditional comic storyline.
