I'm going away / the internet is a great place to meet peopl

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I'm going away / the internet is a great place to meet peopl

I live in south Sweden (Malmö) - but I know, and have met, alot of people that live all over Sweden. I've met them on the internet, at concerts and at festivals.
Basically we were a bunch of people (at least 30 people) that talked regurarly on the internet (IRC) and when opportunities arose, some of us would meet up (I've met around 15 of them IRL).
The whole thing has died out though - and nowadays not many of us talk to each other - but the friendship is still there! :) Last summer one of them was gonna come to Malmö, so we met up and had lunch and talked about what happened in our lifes the last couple of years.

Anyways.. today there's a concert in Stockholm that I want to attend.
So, for fun I wrote one of my mates in Stockholm two days ago and said "Hey, I'll visit you on friday and then we'll go watch the concert ;)"
I thought he would say "I'm busy friday night" or something like that. But he said "Coolness. I don't have any plans for friday, so you're welcome".
This made me go like this " " since I wasn't really serious about visiting him.
But I looked over my financial situation and said "[composite word including 'f*ck'] it. I'll do it. I'll visit him!"

I havent talked to him for over a year - and the last time we met I had just turned 17 (four years ago) and I was really, really drunk. So I really dont remember that much of his IRL-self.
One thing I do remember is that when he came out of the toilet, he rubbed his hands all over my face and said "You're gay if you wash your hands!" and smiled at me (I just want to point out that the dude doesnt have anything against homosexualls, or anything like that).

I'm really looking forward to it - and it so turns out that I'm gonna meet some other people to, that I've talked to on the internet (and met one time or another).

My trip has "chaos" written all over it though.
I'm buying a Standby-airplain ticket, which means that I don't really know when I'll be in Stockholm.
And my friend told me "I'll meet you in Stockholm City, no problem".
Problem is: I've only been in Stockholm once in my life and that visit is filled with alcohol and a really bad hangover. So I don't where the hell I am supposed to go. :D
It'll be an adventure. Without a doubt. And I dont know when I'll return, or how I'll return :o By bus, airplain or train? On saturday or sunday? Who knows.

Anyways... without the internet I would've never met these great people that I've had so much fun with.
I guess the same thing applies for Best First, Snarlos and all the other UK guys :)

Lets hear it for the internet!

YAY!

And cross your fingers that I make it back to Malmö before monday.

Have a nice weekend everybody!
Can't believe I'm still here.

Thus far this attitude and level of organisation has seen me involved in two relationships, a degree and a probable career path... as a friend of mine puts it: "it seemed like a good idea at the time" shouldn't imply that things seem any less of a good idea afterwards.

I survived! Barely though.

I took the train home yesterday - a trip that was supposed to take four hours and thirty minutes.
After three hours we get the message "There's a big ******* storm down in Skåne (the 'state' I live in). We will stop in Hässleholm and see what happens".
After a couple of minutes we get the message "We dont know if we will be able to fix buses that will drive you home".
Basically it means: [composite word including 'f*ck'] you. You'll have to spend the night on a bench at the train station in Hässleholm.

But everything worked out fine, thank god. It stopped snowing and the train made its way to Malmö where my friend picked me up :)

I had a great time in Stockholm anyways.

Weee. Now let the thread die a peacefull death.
Can't believe I'm still here.
