The BRITS

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

In quotes below is an extract from "Angels". Truely awful stuff. Not just dull rhyming but overkilled dull rhymes, topped off with the crummy nonsense that is the last line. So mesmerizingly fantastically mediocre:
#
"so when I'm lying in my bed
thoughts running through my head
and I feel that love is dead
I'm loving angels instead"
#

No doubt if it had gone on any longer we would have been subjected to:
#
"so I need food I must be fed
'grab my hams!' shouts uncle fred
corrie's butcher's rough in bed
i'm loving ashley instead"
#

I completely agree. I'd have to have listened to all the songs recorded in the last 25 years.

What are your reasons, specifically?

It sounds nice? the words are alright, simple yet straight forward. everyone including myself can relate in someway. I dont have to think to much, its pop music. It works. does what it says on the tin etc.

I think it's all right. The rock society at my uni used to have great drunken singalongs to it.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

The thing is, the song's alright, its fine, etc.

Its the fact its being hailed as one of the all time greats that irks me.

Anyway, watched the Awards last night, and all the performances were pretty good (apart from the sickly Robbie/Joss Stone duet).

But I think Scissor Sisters are overrated. :(

They are. They're okay-to-quite-good, but nothing as fabulous as people claim.

What song were Lemar & Jamelia doing? I didn't have volume, so I was reduced to staring at her... which isn't necessarily a Bad Thing.
Grrr. Argh.

She was looking mighty fine wasn't she?

They were singing Addicted to Love. And they both have a fine pair of lungs to boot.

So it's the music that makes 'Angels' good? Run-of-the-mill stuff from Chambers there, but certainly better than the woeful lyrics (Williams' forte), though that's not saying much.

It's a foolish person who dares to interrupt a drunken singalong of a song of any calibre!

I like Angkles but could pick some 200 songs off the top of my head.

The 'frog tune' originated from a email/website thta said "See if you don't laugh after watching this for 1 minutes" ans it worked well. Partly because the noise was so random and partly becaus eit was unexpected. The ad with the silly frog killed it after 1 showing.
#
Whats worse is imagine being a teacher of a state school and listening to moronic kids do hat tune several times a day. I can't target every kid but I was detention city handing them out for doing he "frog noise" in my lesson. Second offences are double. Third has them scraping gum off the underside of my benches for an hour. The damn gum has been increasing since febuary.

You cannot deny that Angels is an anthem that has touched many people over the last few years. Its instantly recogniseable from the first note and everyone knows the words... I ******* hate it though. Always have.

I liked the Daniel/Natasha Bedingfield performance. I really fancy Daniel:(

Joss Stone is crap. She has a quality voice and is given the biggest pile of **** songs to sing.

I think Franz Ferdinand are the most overrated band around at the moment. They really really [composite word including 'f*ck'] me off. Did you see the shocked look on the wanker singers face when Keane won the breakthrough act award? So full of himself. I cant wait for the bastards to just [composite word including 'f*ck'] off. *****!

Scissor Sisters are great because they feel fresh...well they did a year ago, they have done this album to death now. Just wait for the flood of poor imitators though. They do a great live show and the Jim Henderson set at the Brits was funny.

Tips for winners at next years?

I would like to see Thirteen Senses win something, Editors are also lovely and the new Doves single is fantastic, so I hope the album is too.
