Does anyone celebrate Pancake day?

Just by coincidence, I ate pancakes yesterday. Yumyum!

Now I looked on the internet to see the meaning of this feast, and it turns out to be the last day before lent.

So I was wondering; do any of you celebrate this Pancake day (because I've never heard of it before, it's not a dutch thing)? Or can you only if you do the lent-fasting too?

Does this mean I can't eat anything until Easter now?

We have something similar in Poland. It is called "Fatty Thursday" and it is "celebrated" on the last Thursday before Lent. That day, people gorge on doughnuts and ohter sweets.

Pancake Day's more an informal name for it. It's actually called Shrove Tuesday. Being the day before Lent, people traditionally take the opportunity to use up all the flour, eggs and milk that they've got left. Pancakes are the most efficient way of doing it.

I don't observe Lent, but I've been known to use the whole occasion as an excuse to have pancakes. Providing I remember and can be bothered with the whole rigmarole. Which is seldom.

I forgot about it again this year. I wasn't too bothered.

Yeah I observe pancake day, in remembrance of when our Lord Jesus Christ was returned to us in the year 413AD in the form of a giant pancake. Myself and my housemates covered ourselves in batter and rolled around on the floor chanting "PANCAKE! PANCAKE! PANCAKE!"

...uh, I mean yes, I had pancakes yesterday.

That reminds me, we had something sweet and fatty (breadroll with cream or something) in the restaurant at work. But I didn't eat it. Maybe it's a Swedish thing too?

Yeah, we eat those in Sweden on the "Fettisdagen" (translation might be Fatty day).

There's also almond paste in the bottom half of the semla.

And two is NOT too many.

Not if you weigh 55 kilos and is 1,71m long and are a male.

I also believe that it has become possible nowadays with the technological improvements to make it less fatty, low-fat whipped cream, different sorta bread and the like.

Nah, I had pancakes the other day by coincidence too. I just decided to cook some since it was my day off, and because I had real Maple Syrup stowed away in the fridge.

And then I made myself potato pancakes the next morning because some guy was making them on TV.

They were pretty good, actually... grated potato, flour, egg (I only used the whites though because I hate egg yolk... ew), milk, some corstarch, a bit of cheese, crackers... Very interesting! But again a bit heavy for the morning. If I had made them at supper it probably would not have been too bad though.

I dont celelbrate it but I'd sure like to. Maybe we could have a national holiday? I'd like to have a day off of classes.

Never heard of it, but I had pancakes that day too. Figure that.
