Im making a Valentines mix

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Only if you look like Alyson Hannigan and have a sprig of mistletoe tattooed below your belly button...

Newfound Glory did passable covers of I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing and Everything I Do, the Elvis original of Always On My Mind actually has some genuine sentiment, but either version of the Elton John is pretty good.

Down By Law - 500 Miles
Gigolo Aunts - Where I Find My Heaven
Letters To Cleo - I Want You To Want Me
Oasis - She Is Love
Snug - Beatnik Girl
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Our Time
The Donnas - Get You Alone
Rammstein - Küss Mich (Fellfrosch)

Aw, I miss your mug already, Rib.

And I think Make Yourself successfully straddled the line between the early Incubus (that kicked ass) and the Morning View and afterwords Incubus (where their music is just an excuse for Brandon to have his shirt off)

Goo Goo Dolls- "Iris" is perfectly suited to a Valentine's mix.

The radio is playing it right now and I'm all "Awwww..." over it...

[edit] Oh, crap. I missed the "cutoff", didn't I? Ah well, your loss. :p

Why didn't you choose some not-so-well-known-songs/-artists?
Alot of those songs/artists has been played to death :(
Can't believe I'm still here.

Post your list, Obfleur. Maybe yours is safely in between fairly cheesy and harsh punk / rock music?

I like cheesy :D
I'm just tired of the same old songs :(

All of these might not be lovesongs - but they are soft and nice.

Team America Soundtrack / Trey Parker - Only a woman.
The Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm.
Queen - Too much love will kill you.
The Smashing Pumpkins - Crestfallen.
Pantera - Planet Caravan.
Queen - These are the days of our lives.
Monty Python - Sit on my face. :D
Air Supply - All Out Of Love.
Evergrey - For Every Tear That Falls.
Collin Hay - Overkill.

I'm currently at work - and have some **** to do :( So I can't really dig out all those obscure unknown love songs.
But when I get home.. Oh boy...
Can't believe I'm still here.

Yeah, the Gigolo Aunts might give you nasty papercut if you're not careful taking the inlay out of the CD case...

What? 'S a song about girls and kissing frogs... *cough*

Yeah, which either translates to instant turn-on or instant turn-off for most people. Especially that Aerosmith track.

The Pogues - Fairytale of New York
Murry The Hump - Booze and Cigarettes
Ah! Megami-sama - My Heart Iidasenai, Your Heart Tashikametai*
Monty Python - Sit On My Face

*And a new series is in the works: http://www.tbs.co.jp/megamisama/

Oh yeah. Personally, I find that song either hilarious or endlessly annoying. But it's the thought that counts, people!

Does no one think like that anymore? Poo. I know I'd probably like it if I got a CD filled with love songs, even if half of them were crappy. Even if it had that Aerosmith song on it. Plus going with what's been played and played again is probably a bit safer than going with stuff that's never been heard before dependent on the tastes of the person receiving...

Actually, if it were me I'd be happy either way. I like new music, but can be a sucker for cheese if it's heartfelt cheese.

(... which is a bit less tangy than cheddar, fyi. Just as good though.)

Anyway, I've got a few more...

Vanessa Carlton's "One Thousand Miles", Bif Naked's "Lucky", Coldplay's "Yellow", Big Sugar's "Nicotina". That last is a little unconventional, but it kicks.

Absolutely. Unless the other person has told you how much they hate the state of radio today and/or faux romance, in which case it could be an admissable defence in court... because of the nature of situations love songs tend to be attached to (whether personal history or absolutely godawful movies) it's not a bad idea to check before, say, making out with a mix CD playing in the background. Wouldn't want the poor chap to get a crampon in the groin...

It's actually quite difficult to find love songs that aren't whiny and/or fake record-company coffer-fillers and/or about failed love affairs.

Looking at the classics... Always On My Mind is an "I f*cked up" song, Build Me Up Buttercup isn't exactly cheerful underneath the tune, Always / Wild Is The Wind / Bed Of Roses / [almost anything by Bon Jovi that isn't from Young Guns II] is angst for the country generation, Seasons In The Sun is (as are so many others) a looking-back track.

Blue Brothers Cast - Everybody Needs Somebody To Love
Shania Twain - You're Still The One (surprisingly non-crap)
Dido - Thankyou
Murry The Hump - Thrown Like A Stone
Sarah Brightman - Heaven Is Here
Lisa Lougheed - Run With Us
World Party - When You Come Back To Me
Wonderland - Children Of The Sun
