Dirty War

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Dirty War

Very good, I hope I wasnt the only one to catch this on HBO. Its a 'what if' movie done by the BBC and HBO.

What if terrorists detonated a dirty bomb in London?

I heard dirty bombs are a bit overated tho - they only chuck thier waste as far as the actual bomb detonates, and in a built up area like London you would need it somewhere high, like erm the millennium wheel or somthing?

and to chuck that dirty stuff really far your gonna need alot of explosive. its prolly not as bad as they make out.

quick bath ill be ok.

But I think these ideas are thrown about to create un-necessary fear.
Just how big is the threat? I think a few guys with machine guns could probably kill more?

yeah totally - the hwole thing of saying 'it is inevitable we will be attacked at some point - why bother mentioning it. Just do the security work behind teh scenes and let people get on with their lives.

How does that quote go?

I sleep better at night knowing that evil evil men do horrible things that I could never even contemplate and will never know about in the interests of keeping me safe. Something like that.

People seem to be under the impression that if people get the idea in their heads to slaughter a large number of people, it's going to happen. You simply can't stop everyone.

Of course, I live in a country where we can buy assault rifles and cop-killer bullets fairly easily, so perhaps I'm just a bit jaded.

to be honest I'd be more worried from a USA point of view of a bomb going off in the Canary Islands which would wipe out the entire East Coast and probably as far in as Chicago would be affected as well

Why would the US need to worry? We've got that color coded alert system. All is well.

"I pledge annihilation to any other flag except the Corporate States of America and to the Republicans for which it stands, one nation, under debt, easily divisible, with "liberty" and just us for oil."

I've always thought the most destructive thing that could be done on a mass scale while still being low profile would be chemical contamination of water supplies.

No need to  , buddy! I was simply making a joke about defecation.

I would never besmirch the name of Mexican Food. I'm in Texas too, and I'm half Hispanic. I could live on beans and rice. I have a chemical addiction to breakfast tacos. Chips and Salsa is God.

The actual death toll was only 135 I think, but the masses were infected by contact with those affected at ground zero. Many became sick but very few died as a direct result. Also, they stopped a second bomb from being detonated.

Its a good show, I think most would enjoy it

That was on a month or two ago over here I think.

Looked good, similar to 24 I though. Didn't watch much of it, think I have it on tape somewhere though.

Nice reminder.

An explosive device designed to maximise the spread of radioactive material (as opposed to a nuclear device which uses the radioactive material as the source of the explosion), such as shrapnel, frag or pipe bomb.

The particularly nasty aspect of this device is that each piece of the radioactive material contaminates its surroundings, meaning that the usual cleanup operation is made a lot more difficult. And then, should the bomb be placed in the right place (e.g. water supply), it can be even more devastating.

Well thanks for the great ideas folk, this fellow I met says he will use the water reservoir one. What was his name... Ichabod Crane? No, Jonathan Crane... funny tall fellow with a straw hat...
