Titan!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

That's mainly why I used "semi-recent" to denote it hasn't been twenty or fifty or even more years. It is relatively recent, at least I consider it to be.

Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.

The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

Rather than start a new topic I'll just inquire here. I've long been curious in regards to something about Jupiter. Does it have an actual physical surface under all those gas clouds and storms or is it just a spinning ball of heated gas through and through? I've never been clear on that.

Hmm?? Is that a Seaquest reference that I'm seeing? Loved that series. :)
Deep Sea Life by Vents: In 1977, while exploring in the submersible ALVIN near the Galapagos Islands (in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Ecuador), Dr. Ballard, (Founder of the Titanic), and J. F. Grassle, on Project FAMOUS, discovered giant worms (called Riftia) and other organisms living deep in the sea, beyond the depth where people though that life could be sustained. These huge worms were clustered around underwater hot springs (near ocean rifts) from which they get energy. The underwater vents substitute for the Sun's energy. The worms grow in long tubes and are over 10 feet (3 meters) long. In 1979, Dr. Ballard found deep water volcanoes called "black smokers" located off the coast of Baja California in the Pacific Rise; they spew extremely hot mineral-rich water (so hot that they could melt lead) up chimneys formed by mineral deposits.

Speculation exists that the core of Jupiter could be a giant diamond, as the carbon would have been compressed in hellish conidtions.

Alternatively it could be some other material as well.

Suffice to say there is some sort of core, tho short of sending Impy down with a parachute, there is no way to make sure.

They should rename the planet, Debeers.
