Well after a few days of play ive just been whisked off to moderator controll.

why?

Because I made a very accurate looking Hulk - Called him Bruce Banner.

It turns out you are not allowed to make a character that looks like or has a name similar to any marvel characters...

How ******* **** is that?

So i asked, no big green guys allowed then "no" was the reply
"so are you going to bad green for the skin colour pallet when someone chooses a body size over 6.5ft and a weight exceeding 50 stone?!"

"we have to do it manually"

I thought you might aswell shut the game down, ive seen so many wolverines and other xmen characters running about i just laughed.

How can u even include arm claws just like wolverines, eye visors identicle to cyclops and other such items and expect no one to take advantage.

Personally I fail to see how this harms marvel in anyway shape or form.

I believe Marvel are suing the creators of the game because of the ability to create likenesses of their characters. They are probably being extra tough now because of it.

yeah thats right - i asked the mod, he said marvel has filed but havent actually gone to court yet.

I still find it stupid. im using a tool to create a likeness, should we ban ppl from drawing for example the hulk?

If they see my high level character weaing gold and red armour called tony stark im ******!

rumour is also that Marvel are planning their own MMORPG using their characters and such. I guess if you can buy another game and do create their characters,why would you bother buying another game to do more or less the same thing!

yeah I heard that. but i think they jumped on the bandwagon to be honest.

They should sponsor CoH or somthing.

If Marvels version is as good as CoH id be amazed.

Moderated as in don't put obscene words in your name/guild. That's about the extent of it.

There are PvP servers and PvE servers. On PvP servers, pk'ing occurs everywhere with subtle changes depending on territory allegiance.

In PvE servers, pvp only occurs by mutual consent.

well thats about the extent of city of Heroes - i can see where they are comming from tho, they have marvel breathing a huge law suit down thier necks. i guess they dont have much choice.

Ultima Online was cool tho - U had the PvP servers - but UO also had trammel and fellucia. these were two words, totaly mirror image of each other - except wheres tram was pretty green forests, fell was all dead woods etc...

You could move between the two parrelle worlds by laying a 'moonstone' which would open a gate to the other world. here u lay the stone in tramm would open a gate to the exact same point in fell. or you could use a public moongate to travel between the places.

In tramm PvP wax by mutual consent - In fell PvP was anywhere you like. except in your own house if u banned ppl from entering. or around the moongates or inner cities.

PvP in UO is so insanely complex - but then UO is insanely complex. where as CoH and WoW are arcade MMORPG's and Everquest isnt, EQ is still childs play in comparisson to UO.

Hence why I always wanted a Proper UO2. its world is so detailed and rich, but is now dated with its 2D graphics (which are very pretty - but no baulders gate standard) - but not in gameplay.

I still miss UO so much but I cant return now... its hard to explain, just saying the name pulls my heart strings.

Back to the moderators again with me....

They have this cool airship you can fly to (if u can fly) - but u cant enter without apointment unless of course you have been bad again.

This time round I got to meet a developer and actually suggest some simple texture options, I said I make it for them it was so simple, but would really help with character creation, he agreed it was simple so I have actually contributed to somthing. that wasnt the reason for my visit tho.

I just made a female Psychic powerd lady with controll shields and offensive psy powers.

which is exactly what the x-man Psy-Lock has as her mutant powers. - oh Im a mutant aswell...

I also share a Uniform that is the mirror reverse. so where she has straps I have bare skin etc... except for the crotch of course...

My character is called Psy-Key - I went onto explain that i might have a sister by the name of Psy-Lock but she hangs about in another Universe

My character is being considered!

because the game is based on super heroes and thier tool is good enough to emulate a marvel super heroe in shape form and actual powers. marvel want to sue.

of course if Marvel loses then ppl can do what they want.

because ppl like to be that character they have dreamed about for years.

Id love to be WOlverine just for a day, not an angry regeneration mutant with claws, but the defacto wolverine.

Everyone has a fav, and as much as you see lots of unique chracters running about, they are all essentially based on well know super hero.

Sure if they wont let me be Wolverine, you can bet your gonna see lots of ppl who are short squat have bushy hair and act like him.

I have a few unique characters myself, a huge great monolith of a man, covered in vents and plate steel, hes a glowing green colour with black stripes, named Radion X - his powers are kinetics and mainly Radiation .

I also have a women dressed in bondage gear who uses mind controll - how apt.

My fav guy, Is Tony Stark tho, I look a bit Like Iron Man, and I like to pretend i am Iron Man. I cant call myself IronMan or use my near identicle suit but in my mind I am. some ppl see the name and realise who I am.
its role playing I guess.

When i was playing UO there was alot of white wizards called Gandalf funnily enough...

I understand what your asking - you have this powerfull tool to be who you want, its seems a bit un-creative to copy an existing heroe, but on the other hand I can see why ppl want to pretend to be thier fav heroes.

you get 6 character slots so you do have the option.

Alright, that makes sense.

I personally just don't see the attraction though.

I mean, it's cool to use the editor to try and create an X-men. But I'd feel super cheap if I'd run around in a game world as 'Wolverine' or 'Wolverine5521' or 'Gandalf'.

Then again, many of us here have user names based on Transformers. I guess it has its charm.

I mean there are some pretty obscure ppl out there, I saw the most awesome Hellboy yesterday!

You can also create supergroups - like the x-men. I mean it would be cool if you were team x-men.

When you wander about the city, local citzens say stuff about heroes or teams. so it wouldnt be uncommon to see "I hear the X-Men defeated 'Insert eveil mastermind name here' and saved Galaxy City!" ... it deff has appeal.
