Whilst I do think there's a valid point in the whole "would the Beeb show something that was offensive to Muslims?" debate, I find it staggeringly fantastic that these people are unable to form an argument beyond "It's offensive to me, therefore other people shouldn't be allowed to see it."
Is my telly the only one that allows me to watch different channels or (gasp) turn it off when I want?

I just dashed off a quick letter of support to Stewart Lee and called the BBC to let them know that I had no problem with them showing Jesus in a nappy, or saying the word c*nt on tv. Incidentally, a friend of mine is going to get me a copy of the BBC's list of swearwords (in order of offensiveness, with last year's position in brackets afterwards )
Back on topic, this is all because the Sikhs got their way the other week, and the Christians have seen that if you make a lot of noise and cry blasphemy it raises your public profile. Dammit, these people piss me off. I don't subscribe to their fairy stories, so why should they have any power over what I can/can't do? I'm seriously thinking of joining the NSS or a similar group to actively work against religion in society.

The National Secular Society’s General Principles are as follows:
* Secularism affirms that this life is the only one of which we have any knowledge and human effort should be directed wholly towards its improvement.
* Affirming that morality is social in origin and application, Secularism aims at promoting the happiness and well-being of mankind. Secularism demands the complete separation of Church and State and the abolition of all privileges granted to religious organisations.
* Secularism affirms that progress is possible only on the basis of equal freedom of speech and publication; that the free criticism of institutions and ideas is essential to a civilised state.
* It asserts that supernaturalism is based upon ignorance and assails it as the historic enemy of progress.
* It seeks to spread education, to promote the fraternity of all peoples as a means of advancing universal peace to further common cultural interests and to develop the freedom and dignity of mankind.
* To remove an impediment to these objectives, we demand the complete separation of Church and State and the abolition of all privileges granted to religious organisations.

There is contradiction there... if they threaten someone's life, they are not christians. At least, no larger church would consider them that.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:

I guess they were members of some religious sect.

Actually they would...isn't the church all about forgiving and welcoming sinners back into the fold?BB Shockwave wrote:There is contradiction there... if they threaten someone's life, they are not christians. At least, no larger church would consider them that.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:

"Now Mr. Smith, are you genuinely sorry you killed that bastard heathen blasphemer? You are? Welcome back! Oops, mind where that blood's dripping on the pews, will you?"
It's the Rasputin principle. Forgiveness is good for the soul, but to be forgiven you have to sin. Therfore sin is good.
By sinning, you can be forgiven (through which you gain absolution and other fun prizes) and you also allow others to forgive, which gives them loads of bonus points.
Everyone's a winner. Well, apart from the poor sod on the receiving end of the sin, but they're an evil heathen who's going to burn in hell anyway, and are therefore undeserving of our sympathies. Oh? Is lack of compassion a sin? Quick - get with the forgiving!

Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.
The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.
