Bend it like Beckham!

Post by Eline » Tue Jan 04, 2005 11:31 am

... is what you all should have watched yesterday evening on BBC1. No excuses. :eyebrow:

It was a fun movie, and had it all:

- football of course
- footballing girls who could do more than just shop and swoon (and were occasionally semi-nude)
- Kiera Knightly (I like her, but she was a bit too skinny! )
- nice indian music and dancing, and those colourful outfits
- a yummy handsome bloke :)

That was a very good evening! :)

I heard the main actress of the film was murdered, her body found in the Thames. I'd look it up to verify it, but I suppose I don't care that much...

Isn't Keira jailbait in this?

*checks imdb*

Ah no, she's 17. Unlike in The Hole, where you actually get to see her breasts, where she's only 16...
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

That's a rumour. I looked it up for you.

Apparently, she now is an actress in ER.

She was in ER last season. Don't think she's in the new series tho.

I recorded Bend it Like Beckham last night to save for a rainy day. :)

I like Keira. You know she was in the Phantom Menace for about 5 seconds? A definite plus point regarding that awful film.

Though King Arthur is a bit poo. :(

She got blown up in that.

I found bend it like beckham a bit rubbbish.

It reminded me of old grange hill episodes where the girls were better then the boys at football. Those were always embarassingly poor.

Yes, that was not a very good movie :( And where did she suddenly get those nice clothes, when she was held prisoner and then released? Those knights don't carry around pretty dresses, or do they? :eyebrow: (that would make an interesting movie)

I did not see her in the Phantom Menace though... but I liked Pirates of the Carribean(sp?)

Dylan, I think you might like this movie! :)
Or to say what I mean: I feel that you must like this movie because I like it so much. But that doesn't sound nice. :(

I don't think warrior girls run into battle wearing fluffy bikinis either. ;)

Y'know, regarding the cast, I expect better acting from a film full of Brit actors. :(

Watch for all the bits where Natalie Portman is out of the Amidala outfit, and someone else is in it.

Seeing as this topic was once, many moons ago, about a football based film, I would like to say that the other day I watched 'The Football Factory', and rather enjoyed it.

I call Crafty Butcher Gumbo, he loves it.

They filmed I.D. at Leyton Orient, my local footy team.

It's been ages since I last saw ID-The Firm is quite good as well, if memory serves me correctly.

:joy: I own Bend It Like Beckham! I thought it was cute when I first saw it... light n' fluffy. Only watched it once since I bought it though... I may just watch it again tonight. :)

Pirates of the Carribbean is a kick-ass film, though...! Captain Jack Sparrow is a really cool character and Johnny Depp is just great. And I don't mean that in a sickeningly gushy way either. The guy can act.

Gary Oldman is now in my category - 'cool popular actors that effectively aren't cool anymore. I don't like them.'

I hope the reserve category also exists. Perhaps, one day, I might be able to watch a full minute of Jack Nicholson.

Jack Nicholson is still the man. About Schmidt was a very charming film with a restrained focused central performance I felt. He did a brilliant job in the disturbing The Pledge as well. One of the few of the older actors who still pushes himself IMO.

Gary Oldman was probably the best thing in the recent Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban. If anything, I think its a shame he doesn't do more these days. I guess he's not into the acting lark so much anymore, which may be what you're alluding to. :)

I think Gary Oldman was brilliant in Leon (and Dracula).
And he's Gordon, in the upcoming Batman Begins.

And Jack Nicholson was The Joker (I gotta mention Batman-stuff :D).
I still think Jack is cool. A so called "bad boy", hehe.
And he's done a lot of good stuff in his days.

The absolute coolest old man is Clint Eastwood

He's the coolest man - not Old man ;)
When he passes 60, then he'll be an Old man.
And it'll be a tie between Arnie and Clint.

But Arnie is more.. action-cool.
Clint is more scary, mysterious, rock hard.
Can't believe I'm still here.

I think Gary Oldmans best role was in Leon, he was so cool in that.

Back to ID, they mention Bournemouth 'in der cup' so thats cool!

Football - early 90's - England - Scary stuff...

The Firm also rocks, actually I have a strange passion for english football hooligan films.
