Still working on that user manual for Quest3D 3.0 myself. Lots of work, really.
So far I've always felt my English is adequate. I managed to get a good grade in highschool, and years of chatting with native speakers served as good experience.
Appearantly, my written English can get a bit hard to understand. I'm guessing that it's just my style of writing that can be a bit 'scientific' and compact at times.
But on more than one occasion, people have been commenting on my syntax and choice of words. And on more than one occasion, they have been making absurd propositions.
I love to learn new things and become better at what I do. But they are simply offering false options. What they say is incorrect English, not only regarding spelling, but especially concerning idiomata.
I don't dare imagine they 'correct' my manual. I started this job exactly because the last manual was a work of horror.
How about any of you guys and girls? Ever had a similar experience?

I don't know about anybody else, but I've never had any problems understanding you. Remember, people live to criticize. I wouldn't worry about it unless it was somebody important. *hugs*

Thanks for your replies, ladies!
Eline: at times I simply can't understand what they are suggesting. Plural when it's not, past tense when it's not, overdoses of the word 'some'...
Anyway.
Obfleur: certainly! I'm very excited about this project, and I do think I'll allow myself to be a bit proud when it's done!

Any examples?Dylan wrote:What they say is incorrect English, not only regarding spelling, but especially concerning idiomata.
I'd say your use of idiom is several orders of magnitude more developed than that of many people here...
Hmm... publishing? Nothing really springs to mind unless you count band websites or things which have gone on record with branches of foreign government. I mean, I've contributed to fairly informal prospectuses, newsletters and the suchlike, but nothing I'd consider particularly noteworthy.
Qualifiers and conditionals do have their uses, though some variety is to be preferred...Dylan wrote:overdoses of the word 'some'
