tft Monitor ?

so i'm buying this new computer and i need a good monitor, but which one to buy ?
i;ve have no idea which tft monitor is good or not...i need help

what do i need to look at when buying a new monitor?

First off, a 15" TFT is about equivalent to a 17" CRT, a 17" TFT similar to a 19" CRT... 17" TFTs are coming down in price lots now, and 15" ones are very affordable. The thing to bear in mind is that they're fixed resolution—if you like working in 1024x768, get a 15", if 1280x1024, get a 17". Other resolutions are possible but will be blurry.

Always see a TFT working (preferably with a few different applications running to switch between) so that you can check for any dead pixels (either black and won't come on, or only show part of the RGB colour display they should. Check on a mostly white background, a mostly black background, and with a variety of colours over the screen.

thanks I didn't knew about the tft and crt sizes

well i like working 1024x768 but 15" tft is too small and how about 19" tft?

and what does those 12 or 25 ms mean..

i'll mainly use the computer for movie editing and surfing.

When buying a monitor, look at the screen, boy! The screen!

Get a nice large flat screen, they are awesome. 1280x1024 is the schnizzle.

It isn't, honestly—remember, a laptop screen is generally closer to 13" and will be using 1024x768 in most cases. 15" is fine. There are a few 16" displays out there with 1024x768 as the native resolution, though.

Would most probably be 1600x1200. Consider whether the rest of your PC will be comfortable gaming at that resolution if it matters much to you.

For surfing 1024x768 is perfectly fine; sites rarely design with screen resolutions above this in mind as they have to accomodate 800x600 users (that'll be the case for years to come unless educational funding improves dramatically...) More and more people are also accessing the web through small portables.

For movie editing 1280x1024 might be more pleasantly accommodating; at the end of the day it's personal preference, though.

Most probably relates to display latency; on modern TFTs it's virtually irrelevant unless you're a hardcore gamer. I wouldn't think it'll have any effect on video editing applications since you'll be working to 24/25/30 frames a second.
