Serenity pushed back to September

So it's partly my fault the series was cancelled.

Hope I can make it up by watching the movie...

My goodness, something I completely agree with you on Besty! ;)

As a dedicated Buffyverse fanatic (heck, I once wrote a 25 page graduate school paper on Buffy,) I had my doubts about Firefly when I first heard that Joss was planning to do something not Buffy-related.

Now, having seen several episodes of Firefly, I am a great fan of it as well. I will admit that the first/only season of Firefly is technically tighter than that of Buffy, but then again that is to be expected. Buffy was Joss' first series, and there were definitely kinks to be worked out.

But as a "Buffy Firster" among Joss Whedon fans, I feel compelled to point out that Buffy had only 11 episodes (12 by some accounts) in its first season. And seasons two and three of Buffy (my personal favorites, although all of them were very good) are utter masterpieces.

To be honest, I would love to see Firefly (the series) pull a Family Guy and get resurrected thanks to renewed interest through DVD sales (and Serenity, of course.) Arguing about which Joss series is best to me is like arguing about your favorite child; all are beloved.

As a side note, does anyone else see the resemblance between Joss and Alan Tudyk (Wash)?
Buffy: Giles, There are two things that I don't believe in: coincidence and leprechauns.
Giles: Well, Buffy, it's entirely possible that they both arrived here by chance simultaneously.
Buffy: Okay, but I was right about the leprechauns, right?

Oh, I won't dispute that. I chose the season 1 comparison because it's the only one that it's really fair to make. Both were the first year of a new series (okay, Angel was technically a new series to, but it was using already-established characters), and both only really had "half" a season.

It would be interesting to see how good the first season of Buffy would be if Joss made it at this stage in his career... but then that would mean him not having made it when he did, and as such the entire learning curve and Mutant Enemy roster changes would have never happened...

Though, the animated series could answer that question. To an extent, of course.

Hypothesis is fun.

Though Firefly being cancelled did mean we got Fillion on Buffy and Edlund transferred to the Angel writing team. So the cancellation wasn't all bad. Silver lining...
Grrr. Argh.

Fillion was great in Buffy - my only concernis that when i finally see Firefly it will be a bit odd seeing him in the good guy role.

Season 7 kicks so much ass. Who are these foolish naysayers?

Fillion's turn as a goodie is great. Mainly because Mal ain't your standard white-hat. If anything, the performance reinforces how brilliant he is as Caleb, and vice versa.

The guy pulls off both roles brilliantly.

Eh. The central character is the least sympathetic as far as I'm concerned. At least by the end, anyway. Everybody else is great, though.

*Can't watch it until I've given it to my sister as a Christmas present and waited until she's done with it*

Fillion's on Buffy?

Speaking as someone who is watching "Becoming," (the season 2 finale) tonight, what can you tell me without giving too much away? I love the guy. He's an amazing actor.

Will someone who lives closer than I do loan Besty a freakin' copy of Firefly so he can be cool?

What can we tell you without spoiling things? At the moment, nothing much other than that Fillion plays a villain named Caleb, a fallen minister.

In my opinion, telling you much more would ruin too much that you haven't yet seen.

Look forward to season three, though; I think it's one of the best seasons, with "The Zeppo" being a personal favorite episode.

Uhhhhhh....

i watch Firefly. in about 3 days, natch.

Its sooooo good. Its definietly a slightly stronger first season than Buffy (well, assuming it continued its trend of quality to the end of the seson) - the contained atmosphere of Serenity gives it a bit more focus.

Great cast, great stories, great premise and a really fit hooker. oh, and I fancy teh arse off Kaylee.

Stupid ****ig TV execs. utter arseholes.

That's nothing new...she's been a **** to every guy who has ever cared about her. She ignored Xander's feelings, pissed on Angel constantly, drove Riley back to the military and treated Spike like a pile of dog poo. Personally, one of my favorite scenes involving Buffy didn't even take place on Buffy. It occured in the episode called Sanctuary during Season 1 of Angel. Buffy goes all high and mighty on Angel for trying to help Faith and Angel gives her the greatest lines ever spoken to Buffy.

Angel: "Buffy, this wasn't about you! This was about saving somebody's soul. That's what I do here, and you're not a part of it. - That was your idea, remember? We stay away from each other."

Then after Buffy spouts off about Riley: "That's great. - It's nice - you moved on. - I can't. You found someone new. - I'm not allowed to, remember? I see you again it cuts me up inside and the person I share that with is me! You don't know me anymore. So don't come down here with your great new life and *expect* me to do things your way. - Go home!"

ahhh...happy days!
