STARWARS EPISODE III TRAILER!!!!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

What the hell is up with all the flashy lights, and bleepy-sounds and stuff?
The new Star Wars Movies are like a rave disco or something.
What happenes to all that technology, cause everything isn't shiny and bleepy in the old movies.
Can't believe I'm still here.

I don't buy that. Yes Han was definitely watered down in ROTJ (or more specifically, his relationship with Leia was) but he was still typically cynical and could eat Anakin and the Phantom Menace Jedis for breakfast.

In ROTJ:

"Tell that slimy piece of worm ridden filth, he'll get no such pleasure from us!"

To Chewie: "Great... always thinking with your stomach."

To Luke:"Then I'll do it real quiet like!"

To Leia: "Could you tell Luke, is that who you could tell?"

"Great, I've been out of it for a little while and everybody's getting delusions of grandeur!"

His patronising attitude when Luke says he's taken care of everything.

Plus every single line of dialogue to Threepio.

And its not just his cynicism we're missing. No-one in the new movies is as cool as Han, simple as.

They wouldn't have that problem if Lucas had taken me up on my offer to play Chewie in the prequels. He could have saved a bundle on make-up costs, too...

Has anyone read the bit about how some woman wrote the Empire Strikes Back, and she either died or was fired or something. Lucas kept the script, gave it to Kasdan or somebody who then gave it to somebody else who then went on holiday and then invented the question mark (Dr. Evil)?

Um... but whoever ended up fiddling with the script to produce the ESB we know, actually kept all this woman's Han and Leia stuff intact. To me it seems like all their best lines therefore had nothing to do with either Lucas, Kasdan, Gerschwinger, Nerdlinger or the tooth fairy.

Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:So as a big SW fan from birth, why do I watch the new films and feel nothing for them?

I can watch the old films, I think the old films even look better, they have some sort of grit to them, the characters just seem more fun, more interesting and alluring. the action sequences whilst not as big as recent films still have more character to them.

And finnaly the script just seems much better, how many lines do ppl quote from the old films and not the new ones? they seem etched in my memory for good reason, the new films is going on about meticholrines or somthing - **** that.

Lucas get my money because I got to the cinema in vain hope that the each new film might be as good as the old 3... it hasnt even come close yet.

And Han-Solo is fantastic.
I have to agree with practically everything you have said above.

I think the biggest problem with these new movies where Lucus really screwed up is that he failed to give us any endearing characters or characters that really kept our attention. The problem has never been about special effects.

There is no Han Solo. There is no Alec Guiness. Even Mark Hamill exuded more emotion and character than the robotic performances of Natialie Portman, Ewan McGreggor (in the first one, at least), Samuel Jackson, etc. Hell, even Yoda acted so damn tight, it was like they all had sticks shoved up their Jedi asses. I was like "Please, somebody, smile or tell a witty joke, please!"

I think Lucus failed to understand this and kept trying to make this better by adding more and more breath taking special effects. I think this was his biggest mistake.

Leigh Brackett. She died after writing her draft. I think she deserves credit for a lot of the Han/Leia stuff, but I think Kasdan's pretty good with the one liners (as Raiders of the Lost Ark proved). But both were served by a great storyline - in those days Lucas' ideas were great.

Not Gertrude Perkins, then? A shame. I'm sure the signatures would have matched, had we not burnt the manuscript.

eps 1 and 2? Balls. Seriously. Ep 1 was just a poor rehash with ropey racial stereotyping, Ep 2 lookined like panto for the start, then had ropey love story intercut with boring and flimsy politics (and Jar Jar was made responsible for the emperor's rise, thus imparting that spacky fool with more power than anyone else in the series) plus terrible acting, and I'm relatively sure that some of these guys can act. The second one was just barely saved as entertaining fluff by some good action, but I could never call it a good film. And the first one? The highlight was the darth maul batlle at the end, which they intercut with bollocks anakin looking for the big button on his ship that said "plot device".

I've not watched the ep 3 trailer yet, but given the way Lucas operates these days, Im guessing those of you who think its going to be any good are prime examples of the triumph of hope over experience.

Oh, and I don't buy the, its ok vader is small, he's a young man theory, cause he's mean to be getting cyborged up by then. And his mechanical bits wouldn't grown naturally. Maybe Lucas will bulk him up usuing CGI? And paint him pretty colours so the kis don't get too scared.

I'll still go to the cinema and see it though. *sighs*

The only reason I like Star Wars is the lightsaber battles anyway! Oh, and Natalie Portman's hot.

I think that they should completely overhaul Episode III.

They should...

- get rid of the aliens and lasers
- shuffle the cast
- set it all on board a tiny ship
- let Joss Whedon write it
- call it Serenity
- release it in September

... oh wait...
Grrr. Argh.

I don't Mick. I "draw inspiration from" when it's appropriate. Besides, you don't see me complaining that every man and their uncle is riffing off my "mad brick" line, do ya?
